인간의 이기적 탐욕이 지구 도처를 상처내고 있다. 새삼스러운 일도 아니지만, 산은 깎이고, 물 고기들은 오염 물질로 떼죽음을 당한다. 인간의 이러한 만행의 바탕은 우월감이 아닐까. 오직 인간만이 특별하며 대단하다는 생각. 이것이 자연에 대해 우리가 거침없을 수 있는 이유다. 이 러한 인간의 이기적 관점은 다른 생명의 가치를 하락시키고 생태계를 파괴하며, 궁극적으로는 인간의 생존마저 위협한다.

작품 속에 우리 인간의 모습을 물고기, 해파리, 해초 등에 투영시키는 것을 통해, 어떤 형태의 생명체든, 이들은 인간과 동등한 가치를 지니고 있다는 생각을 보여주고 싶었다. 그리고 작품 속에서 우리가 다른 생명체가 되는 것을 경험하면서 잠시나마라도 사람들이 인간의 시각이 아 닌 자연의 관점에서 세상을 바라보고, 또 우리 모두가 자연, 생태계 동식물 하나하나에 깃들어 있는 생명을 다시금 느낄 수 있으면 좋겠다.

 

Human greed is destroying our Earth. Mountains are being digged, fish are facing death, forest is vanishing. Beyond all of these consequences lie human being’s sense of superiority. This misled thought makes people become ruthless to na- ture, and brings destruction of whole eco-system.

In my artwork, YOU, humans are projected on underwater organisms such as fish, jellyfish, and octopus. By doing so, it shows that any forms of life have just the equal value with human beings. Additionally, it provides audiences the perspec- tive of “nature”, not “humans”. Through my work, I hope people could feel the life breathing in all of natural organisms.
