모든 음악에는 이야기가 있다고 느낀다. 음악의 내용을 직접 표현하는 노랫말이 없어도, 악기의 선 율 하나하나가 노랫말이 되어 이야기를 하기도 한다. 그리고 음악에 따라 연상되는 이미지가 있다. 선율과 함께 머릿속에 펼쳐지는 그림.

 

항상은 아니지만, 순간적으로 막연하게 느꼈던 것들을 구체화시켜보고 싶었다. 음악의 시 각적 이미지와 음악 속 이야기, 그 표현을 위해서 ‘그림책’이라는 단순한 수단을 선택했다. 그림책 으로 표현한 음악은, 평소에 좋아해서이기도 하지만 시각적으로 뚜렷한 이미지를 주어서 선택한 드 뷔시의 Arabesque No.1 in E major이다. 아르페지오의 선율에 따라 잔잔히 일렁이는 은빛 물결의 연상이 강렬하다. 음악을 시각적으로 표현함에 있어서는 악보라는 틀이 기본적 바탕이 되었 다. 짧게 스쳐가는 그 어떤 선율이나 쉼표도 이야기와 이미지를 표현하는 데 당위적임을, 악보 속 에서 더욱 느낄 수 있기 때문이었다.

 

전시 공간에 흐르는 음악이, 내가 느낀 이야기와 이미지의 연상에 도움이 된다면 좋겠다. 그리고 악보가 단지 음표의 시각적 기록이라는 수단에서 벗어나 ‘이야기’라는 새로운 목적을 갖게 되었을 때, 그 표현 또한 훨씬 다채로워질 수 있음을 느낀다면 의미 있을 것이다.

 

 

 

Every music has a story. Even the music which does not have lyrics, each melody of it becomes lyrics and tells a story. Also there is an image that comes into our head with a melody of music.

 

This idea was vague and I wanted to make it more concrete, to a kind of ‘visualized image’ and a certain story. I chose a ‘story book’ as a method of visualizing music and expressing a story the music tells. The music I visualized as a storybook is Debussy’s ‘Arabesque No.1 in E major’. The reason I chose the music is that it is one of my favorites but it also gives me a clear and vivid image. The image of slowly moving silver wave is impressive. I used sheet music as a background of visualizing the music. This is because we can clearly understand everything in the sheet even the sudden change of melody or a short rest.

 

It would be good if the sound of music in the exhibition helps un- derstanding and visualizing of the story and image I have felt while mak- ing the book. Also, it would be meaningful if people feel that the expres- sion of sheet music can be more colorful and various when it came to have a new purpose of ‘storytelling’ instead of remaining as a record of each note.
